Lima, June 2, 2023 – Mining Company Condestable, a member of the Southern Peaks Mining Group, together with BYD and Enel X Way, the Enel Group’s global business line dedicated to electric mobility, joined forces to implement the first pilot plan for electric vehicles in underground mines. They presented the first 100% electric truck in underground mining, and the WayPump 150K recharging solution, which will operate inside the mine, located in the district of Mala, Cañete, Peru. The implementation of this truck corresponds to a pilot of electric vehicles implemented by the mining company. This initiative is a milestone for mining, as Condestable becomes the first underground mine in the country to work with this type of transportation, which allows it to reduce its carbon footprint through the efficient use of energy. This initiative is part of the company’s transformation towards responsible and sustainable mining. This project is also a strategic milestone for Enel X Way as it serves as evidence to other companies that electric mobility is a functional, proven and applicable technology.
Enel X Way offers a WayPump 150K recharge solution, facilitating the use of the 52 ton gross – 30 ton net truck, and a 0% to 80% charge in a time between 3 and 3.5 hours. The use of the electric truck will prevent the emission of more than 40 tons of CO2Eq per year.
“We are committed to energy transformation in the mining sector. We work based on the efficient use of resources, circular economy and sustainability as a transversal axis. We want to demonstrate that medium-scale mining is also capable of leading change and aligning ourselves with the highest standards,” commented Adolfo Vera, president and CEO of Southern Peaks Mining.
“As Enel X Way, we highlight the importance of working with different sectors for the development of electromobility in order to facilitate the electrification of transportation for people, companies and cities in the country. In addition, we are very pleased to lead, together with Mining Company Condestable, the incorporation of the first electric truck in the mining sector, being a key element to reduce CO2 emissions and move towards an increasingly cleaner energy matrix”, said Alex Ascón, general manager of Enel X. Way. Way.
With this initiative, Condestable joins the list of companies that have been working to achieve Peru’s energy transition.
The mining company is implementing the pilot plan for electric vehicles together with strategic partners such as BYD, Gildemeister, JMC, Cambio, Enel X Way, RMB and Acoinsa, who participated from the beginning of the project and continue to work together in the operation of the equipment.
