Mining Company Condestable: first underground mine in the country to work pilot plan with electric vehicles

Mining Company Condestable, a member of the Southern Peaks Mining group, started its pilot plan for electric vehicles. The company acquired an electric Telehandler, a 35-ton BYD electric truck and three JMC electric trucks that operate inside the mine and are part of the energy transition program being implemented at its unit located in Mala, Lima, Peru.

Condestable becomes the first underground mine in the country to work with this type of transportation, which allows it to reduce its footprint through the efficient use of energy. This initiative is part of the company’s transformation towards responsible and sustainable mining.

“We are committed to energy transformation in the mining sector. We work based on the efficient use of resources, circular economy and sustainability as a transversal axis. We want to demonstrate that medium-scale mining is also capable of leading change and aligning ourselves with the highest standards,” commented Adolfo Vera, president and CEO of Southern Peaks Mining.

The mining company is implementing the pilot plan for electric vehicles together with strategic partners such as BYD, Gildemeister, JMC, Cambio, Enel X Way, RMB and Acoinsa, who participated from the beginning of the project and continue to work together in the operation of the equipment.

As part of the company’s commitment to energy efficiency, since 2021 it has been working 100% with renewable energy through an agreement with Statkraft, becoming the first mining company in Peru to achieve this milestone.

In addition, last year Condestable obtained “The Copper Mark” certification, which guarantees its commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and to good practices in copper production. It is the first medium-sized mining company in the world to obtain this important recognition.
