Mining Company Condestable (CMC), a member of the Southern Peaks Mining (SPM) group, obtained for the second consecutive year the Blue Certificate granted by the National Water Authority (ANA), due to its commitment to the responsible use of water resources.
The mining company is the first in Peru to receive this recognition for the second time, thanks to the reduction of its water footprint through the implementation of various programs.
“We are very proud to have received this certification again. We believe that it is possible to work towards sustainable mining by taking care of natural resources. We are committed to continue reducing our footprint through the efficient use of water in our operations,” said Cecilia Rabitsch, SPM’s Vice President of Environmental, Social and Sustainability Affairs.
Among the best practices implemented by CMC is the Mill Water Distribution Optimization Program, which will allow us to use more recirculated water and reduce fresh water consumption. In addition, a fog catcher system was installed to take advantage of the fog that occurs during the wet season to obtain water.
Likewise, the mining company has as a shared value project the installation of tanks and multipurpose sinks in common kitchens and soup kitchens in Mala, which will allow for greater availability of clean water for the safe preparation of food.
What is the Blue Certificate?
This recognition is awarded to all water-responsible companies that are committed to efficient water management both within their facilities and in the areas where they operate.
