We are the first mining company to operate 100% with renewable energy thanks to our agreement with Statkraft Peru, holding the international certification from AENOR, which authenticates the origin of the renewable energy used. In June 2020, SPM signed an agreement with Statkraft stating that all energy consumed comes from renewable sources (hydropower).
Condestable is the first mine in Peru to use 100% renewable energy.

At SPM, our safety approach centers on people, recognizing that employees, contractors and leadership all play a significant role in achieving our safety objectives. Our safety culture is strengthened by the conscious commitment of everyone involved.
The implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System, along with our “Zero is Possible” strategy, based on international standards, drives the creation of safe and healthy workplaces.
ZERO IS POSSIBLE Strategy
The “Zero is Possible” Strategy is built upon eight strategic pillars: Adaptive Leadership, Positive Safety, Critical Risk Management, Proactive Indicators, Emergency Response, Health & Hygiene, Operational Reflection and Analysis & Improvement.
Since its implementation in 2002, this strategy has achieved significant milestones through our corporate risk management model. This model aims to foster a preventive culture from the leadership down through the effective and efficient management of our critical controls and the proactive analysis of findings from our safety tools. This allows us to focus our supervisory efforts and consistently contribute to a reduction in our injury rates.
Tailings management is handled by our Mining Waste Management and Governance team. This team strictly complies with national regulatory requirements and aims to achieve the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM). The goal is to prevent extreme consequences for people and the environment resulting from possible catastrophic failures.
Compañía Minera Condestable has conducted a comprehensive assessment of key gaps and has established an Implementation Plan to comply with the Global Tailings Management Standard, following the guidelines and protocols of the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM). This is part of a responsible and compliant management of tailings storage facilities.
